An AI-assisted account brief should help a seller decide what to investigate next. It should not turn a handful of profile details into a confident story about a company's budget, problems or purchasing plans. Start with a narrow question: why might this account deserve a conversation about the specific problem you solve?
The workflow below uses Sales Navigator for permitted research and an approved AI tool to organize your own authorized notes. Native features, integrations and availability can differ by subscription and account. LinkedIn describes Account IQ as account-level research support; check the current Account IQ guidance rather than assuming a feature is included.
Build a small evidence packet first
Choose one account and write five to eight short research entries. Each entry needs an observation, a source URL, a publication date when available, and the date you checked it. Keep company facts separate from facts about an individual. A division hiring engineers does not establish a company-wide technology purchase.
Company context: what it sells and which customers it serves.
Relevant development: a specific announcement, vacancy or operating change.
Stakeholders: verified responsibilities, not assumed decision-making authority.
Existing relationship: your team's own authorized contact history.
Unknowns: purchasing timing, current provider and internal ownership.
Use only information you are allowed to share with the selected AI service. Prefer a short factual summary over uploading whole conversations or unnecessary personal details. Remove private information that has no bearing on the sales decision.
Give the model a fixed brief structure
Try this prompt: “Using only the supplied research notes, prepare a one-page account brief. Include verified context, a possible relevance hypothesis, evidence against that hypothesis, three unanswered questions and one recommended next research step. Attach the original source ID to every factual statement. Label inference explicitly. If evidence is absent or contradictory, say so. Do not invent contact details, budgets, technologies or buying intent.”
The evidence-against section is important. A model asked only to find reasons to approach an account may produce a persuasive argument from weak material. Requiring a competing explanation makes the brief more useful to the seller reviewing it.

Example: a warehouse software account
Imagine a fictional distributor announces a second warehouse. Your verified note says the location will open next year. Another note identifies an operations director, but says nothing about software ownership. A useful brief describes the expansion and asks whether inventory processes will change across sites.
An unreliable brief says the distributor urgently needs a new warehouse management system and names the operations director as the budget holder. Neither conclusion follows from the notes. Replace those claims with research questions: is the existing system being extended, and who owns the implementation decision?
Review the brief in two passes
Check accuracy. Open each cited source and confirm that names, dates and scope match. Reject references that merely discuss the same general topic.
Check usefulness. Remove background that would not change your questions or next action. Keep the brief short enough to read before a call.
Have the account owner approve the final version. Record when the brief was reviewed, and refresh time-sensitive observations before outreach. AI output should remain a draft until that review happens: OpenAI acknowledges that confident answers can still contain factual errors.
Turn the brief into a decision
End with one of three outcomes: research another question, approach a relevant person through an appropriate channel, or park the account. “More information needed” is a useful result when it prevents an irrelevant message.
