Build a Sales Handoff to Delivery That Protects Trust

Create a sales-to-delivery handoff that preserves scope, promises, dependencies and buyer context so the implementation team starts with a reliable record.

A promise register passes from sales to a delivery team.
A promise register passes from sales to a delivery team.

A customer should not have to repeat every important detail after a purchase. Yet a delivery team also needs more than a long sales thread and an optimistic CRM summary. A useful handoff gives the team a reliable account of what was agreed, why the customer bought and what remains unresolved.

Build the handoff before the sale is complete, then update it when final terms are agreed. This makes gaps visible while they can still be corrected. Do not wait until the kickoff to discover that sales and delivery understood the scope differently.

Start with the promise register

List the deliverables, exclusions, dates and responsibilities that were actually approved. Link to the authoritative proposal or agreement rather than copying isolated sentences without their conditions. Distinguish contractual commitments from informal preferences and ideas discussed during evaluation.

If a salesperson made an unsupported promise, surface it promptly. Quietly omitting it from the handoff does not erase the customer's expectation. The appropriate owner should resolve the discrepancy with the customer before delivery depends on a false assumption.

Explain the customer's operating context

Describe the workflow being changed, the people involved and the outcome the customer wants to support. Include the evidence behind important requirements. A note saying the buyer wants speed is less useful than an explanation that staff currently wait for a named approval before completing a handoff.

Avoid private speculation about personalities or motives. Delivery needs practical collaboration context, such as an agreed communication channel or a review schedule. It does not need unsupported labels about a stakeholder being difficult or politically weak.

Keep prospecting research separate from the delivery record so preliminary assumptions do not become implementation requirements. Ask about the US$15/month offer. Leads Automation is independent and is not affiliated with LinkedIn. Confirm the plan, eligibility and service terms before ordering.

A fictional handoff problem

Suppose Alder Services sells a reporting setup. The proposal includes two report templates, while a discovery call also discussed a possible dashboard. The handoff identifies the dashboard as an unapproved future idea, not a deliverable. At kickoff, the delivery lead checks whether the customer has the same understanding.

If the customer expected the dashboard, the team pauses to reconcile the record. It does not simply add the work or insist that the customer's memory is wrong. The aim is a shared scope that both sides can rely on before implementation begins.

Transfer unresolved work explicitly

Every open question needs an owner and an effect. Missing sample data may block configuration. An undecided terminology choice may affect training. An unconfirmed stakeholder may delay acceptance. Record the dependency rather than burying it in a general notes field.

Include access requirements and data-handling boundaries, but do not place passwords or other secrets in the handoff document. Use the organization's approved access process. Confirm which customer information the delivery team needs and avoid copying unnecessary personal data into another system.

Hold a short live review

  • Walk through scope and exclusions.

  • Review customer objectives and evaluation findings.

  • Identify commitments that depend on prerequisites.

  • Confirm owners for unresolved questions.

  • Agree what the customer should hear next and from whom.

Ask the delivery lead to explain the project back in their own words. Misalignment is easier to fix in this conversation than during customer onboarding. Keep sales available for clarification without creating competing communication channels. A handoff is complete when the receiving team understands the work and accepts responsibility for the next agreed step, not merely when a document is sent.

Review any research-service terms on their own merits rather than treating them as delivery guarantees. Review the US$15/month offer with Leads Automation and check whether the stated service fits your needs.
