Define Sales Research Completion Without Perfect Data
Define when sales research is complete using decision-focused evidence, explicit unknowns, stop rules, and handoff criteria instead of demanding perfect records.

Research can continue indefinitely if completion means finding every fact about an account. The opposite problem is declaring a record complete as soon as required cells contain something. Define completion around the decision the work supports. A good stopping rule tells the researcher which questions matter, what evidence is sufficient, and how unresolved uncertainty should be returned to the person making the decision.
Begin with a bounded question
Write the decision and the information needed to make it. For a service-coverage review, that may mean confirming the relevant operating location and activity. For an ownership review, it may mean resolving the entity and existing relationship. Avoid adding unrelated details simply because a source happens to contain them.
Define required evidence before starting. Name acceptable source types, freshness expectations, and identity checks. Make the requirements proportionate to the consequence of an error. A speculative internal market map does not require the same confidence as a factual claim in a customer proposal.
Allow more than one valid completion outcome
Supported answer: the evidence addresses the question.
Supported exclusion: the account does not meet the defined criteria.
Unresolved after bounded research: relevant checks were completed, but the answer remains uncertain.
Escalated decision: a policy or authority question prevents further progress.
Cancelled as obsolete: the decision is no longer needed.
Keep these outcomes distinct in reporting. An unresolved answer can be responsibly completed research without being ready for outreach or a firm qualification decision. A cancelled request should not be counted as a verified account.
If you are deciding whether an additional research service is needed, ask about the US$15/month offer. Leads Automation is independent and not affiliated with LinkedIn; this is not LinkedIn’s official price. Confirm the plan, eligibility, and terms before ordering.
Use stop rules that preserve uncertainty
Set a scope or review checkpoint for the work. For example, after checking the identified official sources and relevant internal history, the researcher may return a summary of the unresolved identity question. This is a proposed operating rule, not a universal time budget. Complex or consequential cases may justify further investigation.
W3C's data quality vocabulary emphasizes fitness for purpose. Completion should therefore state the purpose for which the evidence is usable. Do not let “complete” become shorthand for accurate forever, suitable for every use, or free of unknowns.
Fictional example: an uncertain service footprint
In this fictional example, a maintenance provider asks whether Spruce Retail operates locations within its service area. The company's current store locator supports three relevant locations, but a separate announcement describes a planned fourth site. The researcher confirms the three current locations and labels the fourth as planned, with completion unverified.
The request is complete for a current-coverage decision because the supported locations answer it. A claim that all four sites are operating would remain unsupported. If the sales team later asks about the planned site's opening, that becomes a new bounded question. The example demonstrates scope, not a real account finding.
Make the completion packet reviewable
Include the question, outcome, evidence links, observation dates, material unknowns, and suggested next internal decision. Identify what would trigger reopening, such as a new source, an event date, or a change in qualification criteria. Reopening should have a reason rather than happen because someone dislikes an uncertain answer.
Connect the definition to handoff acceptance and throughput measurement. If a recipient rejects the packet, ask which agreed criterion is missing. If they need a different question answered, record the scope change openly.
When evaluating the US$15/month offer, define the research question you expect it to support and verify included capabilities. Do not treat a purchase as a promise of complete data, verified prospects, or a particular sales outcome.
Review a few finished requests with both researchers and recipients. If they disagree on whether the work is complete, improve the examples and criteria. The goal is a shared, honest stopping point, not a label that hides unfinished decisions.
