Separate Account Potential from Contact Reachability
Separate business fit from contact reachability with a two-axis account review that protects promising research without rewarding easy but unsuitable contacts.

An account with an easy contact route can look more attractive than a strong business fit that takes longer to understand. That bias can fill a sales queue with reachable companies that have little reason to buy. Evaluate account potential and contact reachability separately. The first asks whether the business could reasonably benefit from your service. The second asks whether you have an appropriate, supported route for a relevant conversation.
Define potential using business evidence
Choose a few factors tied to what you sell. These might include a relevant operating model, serviceable geography, a suitable business scale, and an observable reason to investigate further. A public expansion announcement can justify a research question, but it does not prove a company has budget or intends to purchase.
Give each factor an evidence status. Avoid a numerical score that disguises unknowns as average values. A company with unknown service coverage should remain uncertain on that dimension, rather than receiving a middle score that looks like partial fit. Use conflict resolution when sources disagree on a decisive factor.
Assess reachability without inventing permission
Record the route and its status: existing relationship, published business channel, introduction requiring permission, or no suitable route identified. Reachability is not consent, and a visible contact detail does not settle whether a particular use is appropriate. Apply your organization's communication rules and any applicable requirements before contact.
Identify the business function relevant to the service.
Check whether the contact route actually relates to that function.
Record known restrictions and prior communication preferences.
Keep unverified addresses and assumed role ownership out of ready-to-contact work.
Do not treat personal characteristics as evidence of willingness to engage.
If you are assessing tools for account and role research, ask about the US$15/month offer. Leads Automation is independent and not affiliated with LinkedIn; this amount is not LinkedIn’s official price. Confirm the plan, eligibility, and terms before ordering.
Use four operating groups
High potential with a suitable route can move to a human review of the next step. High potential without a route belongs in a bounded research queue. Low potential with an easy route should not jump ahead simply because outreach is possible. Low potential without a route usually needs no further investment unless the underlying business criteria change.
The groups are decision aids, not guarantees of revenue. W3C's data quality guidance emphasizes fitness for a particular use. In this workflow, a contact-ready record and an account-planning record have different requirements.
Fictional example: two different opportunities
In a fictional scenario, a packaging consultancy reviews two businesses. Meadow Instruments publishes a general inquiry address, but its product line does not match the consultancy's services. Ridge Components appears to operate a relevant packaging process, but the responsible buying function is unclear. A single combined score might favor Meadow because its contact details are complete.
The two-axis review instead closes Meadow's current research as a service mismatch and assigns Ridge a limited role-mapping question. The researcher is asked to clarify the buying function, not gather as many personal contacts as possible. Ridge may still prove unsuitable; the method only makes the next research decision more rational.
Put limits on hard-to-reach research
Set a review point for strong-fit accounts with no appropriate route. At that point, summarize the sources checked and the remaining uncertainty. The team can defer, narrow the target function, or decide the effort is not justified. Avoid endless research that gradually lowers standards for evidence or acceptable contact methods.
Record temporary route limitations separately from permanent fit exclusions using reason codes. This allows a later legitimate introduction to change reachability without rewriting the account's business-fit history.
When discussing the US$15/month offer, confirm the actual research capabilities and permitted uses. Do not assume a service includes verified contact details, outreach permission, or any guaranteed response from the businesses you research.
Review your queue for accounts that advanced solely because they were easy to contact. If that pattern is common, change the decision rules before adding more names to the database.
